[Solved] Error: Browser does not support Java in documentum

What is Documentum

  • Documentum is an enterprise content management platform, now owned by OpenText, as well as the name of the software company that originally developed the technology. EMC acquired Documentum for $1.7 billion in December, 2003. 
  • The Documentum platform was part of EMC's Enterprise Content Division (ECD) business unit, one of EMC's four operating divisions.

This is a guide by which you would be able to resolve the most important error that users face while using Documentum's Webtop web application i.e. "Your browser does not support Java".

Introduction

Browser does not support Java error occurs when the Java and Browser installed in the system are unable to rectify if the application launched in the Browser is secured or not.

The error occurs when Documentum's Webtop web application is launched even after the prerequisite IE and Java versions are installed in the system.

Impact of error

The end-users get the error when they try to open, view, import or export documents from Documentum's Webtop web application.

The error occurs even after the IE and Java compatibility is proper required to access
Documentum's Webtop web application.

This is one of the main pain area of end-users which does not allow the end-users to use full functionalities of
Documentum's Webtop web application.

Why is the error

For Documentum's Webtop web application 6.0, compatible Java (jdk+jre) and IE versions are listed below.:
1.    Internet Explorer version 6.0./7.0 with Java (jdk+jre) version 1.6.0_02.
2.    Internet Explorer version 8.0 with Java (jdk+jre) version 6 update 25.
3.    Internet Explorer version 9.0/10.0 with Java (jdk+jre) version 7 update 45.

The error occurs even after above IE and Java compatibility is installed in end-user’s local system to access
Documentum's Webtop web application.
 
The end-users get the error when they try to open, view, import or export documents from
Documentum's Webtop web application.

The error also occurs when end-users try to open any PDF documents; also we are unable to link the path of Adobe reader installed in local system of end-users to Documentum's Webtop web application 6.0.

Steps to resolve the issue

1) Go to Control Panel, Click on Java.

2) In Java control panel, click on General tab, click on Network settings button.

3) In Network Settings, Choose on Direct Connection option and click on OK.

4) Go to Security tab of Java control panel, lower down the “Security level” to lowest possible level and click on OK.
Make sure “Enable Java content in the browser” option is check-marked.


It would take you back to Security tab of Java control panel.
Everything done for the Java control panel.

Now close Java control panel.
Now open IE browser installed on your system and process as below.

1) Go to Control panel, click on Internet Options or Launch IE browser click on Tools in Settings option, click on Internet Options.

2) Click on Privacy Tab and lower down completely till it shows “Accept all cookies” in Select a setting for internet zone section.


3) Click on Security Tab of Internet Options, click on Trusted Sites, lower down completely till it shows “low” in Security Level for this zone section.


4) Click on Sites button in Security Tab of Internet Options, Uncheck “Require server verification (https:) for all the sites in the zone” section, Add your Documentum's Webtop web application’s full URL in “Add this website to the zone:” section, click on Add button.


You would see the URL of your Documentum's Webtop web application in the list of Websites below Add button.
Now click on close, click on Ok.

Now close and restart the IE browser again and proceed with your regular chores without worrying about “Your Java does not support Java” error.
